Pudsey Rotary Club keeps
pressure in check
The Rotary Club of Pudsey, The Stroke Association and the
Local Health Authority are working in partnership for the
fourth year running to help combat high blood pressure, the
single biggest risk factor for stroke. A day of free blood
pressure measuring will be held on Friday 7th April 2006 for
local residents and workers at The Owlcotes Shopping
Centre, Pudsey from 10am – 4pm.
The campaign has proven to be extremely successful over the
past three years, with
record numbers of people getting their blood pressure
measured. This year we hope to encourage more than 30,000
people throughout the UK to take advantage of this free
health check.
Paul Hanson, Pudsey Rotary Club says :” We hope local
residents will stop by our stand on Friday 7th April and
have their blood pressure measured. It will only take a few
minutes but it could help save lives. “
Every three minutes someone in the UK has a stroke. It is
the largest single cause of
severe disability. For every ten people who die of stroke,
four could have been saved if they had arranged regular
blood pressure measurements and then followed medical
advice.
There are often no symptoms of high blood pressures, so
these measurements are vitally important, particularly as
more than 150,000 people in the UK suffer a first stroke
each year.
