Undeterred by the last minute absence of his speaker, John introduced us
to the concept of this masterpiece of new motoring technology, ably
assisted by Miss Liz Grey of Going Green Ltd., who market it throughout
Europe from their Leeds base. The car is the brainchild of AEV of
California and it is manufactured in India in joint venture with the
Reva Electric Car Company.
The change of venue from the Queens Room (closed for staff holidays) to
the serene atmosphere of the Woodhall Hills Golf Club, gave us an
opportunity to shatter the calm by tootling round the large and almost
empty car park in this fascinating little vehicle.
Liz ably dealt with searching questions and convinced us all that it
would make a significant contribution to cleaning up our city air. It is
ideal for those wishing to cut motoring costs dramatically and whose
journeys are mainly short, round town, up to 45 miles per hour and in
total less than 50 miles per day - these journeys are the most
polluting.
It costs less than 1p per mile (that is the cost of electricity to
charge the batteries). In common with the now popular super-minis, it
seats two adults and two children in comfort. With no road tax, group
one insurance, no congestion charges and a full maintenance low cost
lease, it is sure to catch on.
